Mid-19th century Welsh folk-art straw work and watercolour picture depicting "Conwy Castle and Bridge", in period glazed maple frame.  Provenance: From The Hon. Sir William McAlpine Collection. See The Judkyn/Pratt Collection of British Folk Art, sold at Christie's South Kensington, 8th November 1995.  The Menai Suspension Bridge is a suspension bridge designed to carry road traffic between the island of Anglesey and the mainland of Wales. The bridge was designed by Thomas Telford and completed in 1826.  Straw work pictures of this type were produced in an asylum in N. Wales as therapy for the patients.
