Known as "Demoiselle d'Avignon"; the jugs were originally produced in the city of Cannakale, Turkey and filled with the essence of roses. They were then imported to Marseille and used as ewers in Provence.
The green ewers are typically kept in pairs; the female having a twisted handle and the male a smooth, curved handle.
Turkey, circa 1850.
